Getting Healthy

Last week I consumed sugar to the point of near death. After feeling my blood sugar come crashing down and wanting to take naps in between sleeps, I decided that after Christmas, I MUST MAKE A CHANGE. Today the change began. I decided to start before the new year because New Year’s Resolutions always seem to be surrounded with the stigma of failure. Also…I will be 30 in just a blink of an eye, so I am setting certain goals to be complete right before my 30th birthday, February 16th.

At my start point I can do about 8 half push-ups. Not the difficult kind that those strong boys do, but the on my knees, pushing up my shoulders kind and maybe even my lower body. It’s the wimpiest of the wimpy kind of push-ups. I weigh more than I can ever remember wearing and I am tight in just about everything I own. I know I’ve entered the plus sizes, but I’m going to say I’m a tight 16…depending on what I’m wearing. Even my winter coat is tight! I swear my in-laws think I’m pregnant…I will be delivering my food baby in about 6 weeks.

My goals are the following: 1) cut out sugar & wheat through February 15th, 2011 (doesn’t 2011 sound so, so very distant?)  2) Complete the Slim in 6 workout DVDs by February 15th, 2011; and 3) Complete the Healthy Edge by February 15th, 2011. I may also be cutting out some dairy, especially cheese, which is my personal arch nemesis to weight loss.

Today is day one. I am starting a 5 day Reset program from Usana Health Sciences. I’ve had 1/2 chocolate, 1/2 vanilla shakes and am about to consume my third; 2 health bars. And I will be eating a salad & a piece of fruit with my dinner. I’ve done the Reset before and I always feel better once it’s done. Not because once it’s done I’m not eating shakes 3 times a day, but because my body feels healthier, more energetic, lighter. It’s a better feeling. I completed my first 25 minute Start-Up workout. Usually I skip the 1st easy workout. This time I decided to actually follow the program guidelines. A little tough for a gal like me.

The Healthy Edge teaches about healthy living and what’s good for you. It’s different from other Weight Loss programs in that you don’t have to count your calories; it’s focus is on eating healthy, not eating within a certain allotted calories or points. The program has 5 guidelines to follow every day:

1. Eat 6 superfoods a day

2. Workout 45 minutes per day

3. Drink 80 ounces of water per day

4. Take a GOOD supplement morning and evening

5. Eat every 2-3 hours

The program says to take a good supplement every day because most supplements purchased at the grocery store don’t cut it. I also take the Usana Supplements – I take the Essentials, Proflavanol, Biomega, Calcium, Vitamin D, Digestive Enzyme, Hepasil, CoQuinone, (I think that’s about it…) My husband definitely thinks we look like 80 year olds when we take our vitamins. But I keep telling him if we take our vitamins now, maybe we won’t have to take all the bad stuff that 80 year olds take. Double yikes.

So today is day 1 of 51. I’m SO ready to rock 30!
